First camp of 2015
The first camp
of the season saw 17 of us gather together at Drove Lea Farm in Titchfield,
next to the ancient Titchfield Abbey for the Early May Bank Holiday. This rally was stewarded by Alan and Mary
with the assistance of Pat and Barrie.
The weather could have been kinder but although it was rather cold and a
bit windy it stayed generally dry during daylight hours which enabled everyone
to get out and about do their thing as they wished. We had the usual Friday evening get together
discussing matters of the moment, generally sorting out the world’s problems
and other more important issues such as how many people would be attending the
Late Sunday Dinner at the nearby Fisherman’s Rest Hostelry. Alan and Mary had
put together an exciting and demanding Abbey Challenge of 21 clues related to
the history of the Abbey and other general items to be discovered in around the
Abbey. The forms were handed out and The Challenge had to be completed over
the weekend.
Saturday was a day spent at leisure before meeting for an evening meal get together at The Fisherman’s Rest. On Sunday we attended the morning service at the Methodist Church at nearby Stubbington and enjoyed tea, coffee and biscuits afterwards with the very welcoming and friendly congregation. That evening most of us gathered together once again for the Sunday Dinner. Monday morning dawned fine and sunny and the Grand Prizegiving to the winners of The Abbey Challenge took place. By the small margin of only half a point the winners were declared as Team Jessica with a score of 18½. Jessica was also the clear winner of the children’s prize. The owners of the site said there was no need to rush away and many stayed for coffee and biscuits provided by Marion before slowly packing up,having lunch and leaving after a very pleasant start to our season. |
