The Late Bank Holiday Rally 2019 took place at St John’s Farm Exmouth. This mini rally consisted of only 3 caravans and 5 people, (all stewards), in attendance, which I believe to be the the smallest gathering in the Club’s entire history due in the main to most other members being unable to attend for various personal and family reasons As the saying goes however, small can be beautiful and what a success it was! We enjoyed a communal bbq on the Saturday, a Sunday lunch in a village near Exmouth following the Church service in Withycombe Village nearby. On this occasion our numbers were swelled by the visit of Heather and her husband Barry. On Monday we had a three course meal with each of us preparing one of the courses. Most evenings - and some very late nights! were taken up with Double 12 dominoes or just chatting the time away - perfect!
The site was beautiful with lovely countryside views and very centrally placed for visiting the surrounding towns. It is situated alongside what some may think a very aptly named St John’s in the Wilderness Parish Church. A nearby bus stop was used to visit many areas, all free with our bus passes of course, to places including Exeter, Sidmouth and Exmouth itself. Due to our limited numbers our pitches were on the main campsite. These were hardstanding newly constructed beautiful flat pitches all with electrics included for the price of £20 per night, very good value for this time of the year on the Devon coastline. There were fairly limited facilities, in terms of numbers, but perfectly adequate, plenty of hot water and washing up areas. The owners are absolutely lovely people always willing to help with any queries or difficulties. We had the excitement of the air ambulance helicopter landing in our midst one day to take an unfortunate camper to hospital, with the pilot showing all those interested the inside of the helicopter, taking questions and talking about the service, his own career and experiences. The kids loved it - and the dads! This campsite is definitely worth another visit.
