HURLEY RIVERSIDE PARK NEAR WINDSOR
We are told that the world is experiencing Global Warming! Families leaving Bournemouth to travel to Hurley for our second camp this year would question this information! The journey to Hurley was wet and windy but, fortunately, by the end of the day, the rain abated and we settled down to a cool but dry and interesting five days. Hurley Riverside Park is a large public site situated on the banks of the Thames with some lovely walks and a possibility for canoeing which Jason and family enjoyed. John and I were the stewards and organised a hot meal for the first evening which had to be held inside our caravan in two sittings. The children ate first and then we managed to seat 10 adults in our small caravan. It was a tight fit but worked very well! There are some very interesting National Trust Houses and Gardens around Hurley which many of us enjoyed. The Wills family had some great days out, including a whole day in London sightseeing. We had a message at 10 p.m. to say they were delayed in the Underground so were pleased to hear their car arrive home safely about 11.30 p.m. Friday morning brought the news that Margaret Burdett had become a grandma again when Evelyn Grace, daughter for Paul and Sam, arrived and to crown the celebrations in the evening we had another message to say that Jacob Connor had been born to Chris and Sinead. Two new grandchildren in one day for Margaret - quite an achievement. On Saturday evening we had a BBQ together with an additional five children who were being looked after by grandparents. Chris and Julia had their twin granddaughters as Mum and Dad were attending a wedding locally and Margaret had Alison’s three children as she had organised a surprise visit to Las Vegas for her husband, Gary, on his 40th birthday. It was lovely to see the children playing so well together. Sunday dawned hot and sunny which meant coffee and cake in the sunshine before heading homeward. Christine Mahoney |
