First camp of 2014 a real pleasure!
This year’s camping started over the May Bank Holiday weekend with a stay at the well-appointed East Creech Farm, near the Blue Pool. The nights started chilly, but the days were lovely, so we all took the chance to do sightseeing and long walks. Especially impressive were the bluebell woods, flowery hedgerows and wildlife.
Ten units had set up by Friday night, in time for the usual beverage, bickies and banter. Saturday saw us all heading off for different kinds of fun, but everyone seemed to catch sight of the medieval displays within Corfe Castle, only a mile away, and the Wareham/Swanage puffer train. The day closed with home-grown entertainment, cheese and wine; loads of talent was on show and a good evening passed quickly. On Sunday we drove to Wareham Methodist church, where we enjoyed a warm welcome and good worship, as ever. Most went out for lunch, finding one of the excellent hostelries in this area; some then walked, while others rested.
On Monday, Sue & Phil led a mildly challenging walk across boggy heath, through lovely woods, past gorgeous pools and over easy stiles. Sadly, work and home duties called many of us away in the afternoon, but those who left early missed the worst of the Purbeck traffic jams. In all, a highly enjoyable first camp, that augurs well for our trip to Teigngrace in Devon in another few weeks’ time.
